IAIS Global Seminar 2025

8 Jul 2025 - 10 Jul 2025 in Events, Global Seminar

The IAIS welcomed over 1,000 participants during its virtual Global Seminar 2025. The event commenced with the Executive Committee leadership dialogue, where IAIS leadership shared updates about our ambitious work programme and future plans, including how the IAIS is supporting members to respond to challenges and opportunities in a period characterised by ever more rapid change.

Three committee chair engagement sessions dove deeper into the work of the IAIS committees and highlighted current and planned projects, providing an opportunity to engage on topical issues. Two expert panel discussions covered the risks in the global insurance sector and how stakeholders can work together to address natural catastrophe (NatCat) protection gaps.

The Global Seminar provided an opportunity to discuss key issues front of mind for the global insurance sector and supervisory community. We invite you to explore these discussions and watch the replays below.

Overview

Sessions

IAIS Leadership dialogue

Executive Committee Chair Shigeru Ariizumi opened the Executive Committee Leadership Dialogue. In his remarks, he outlined that 2025 marks a significant milestone for the IAIS.

Following an intensive period of standard setting, the IAIS now embarks on a new chapter one that prioritises the consistent and effective implementation of the standards we agreed. This includes the timely and coordinated implementation of the Insurance Capital Standard (ICS). Executive Committee Chair Shigeru Ariizumi provided an update on the ICS implementation assessment methodology and timeline. He also outlined how the IAIS continues to proactively address emerging risks and strengthen global collaboration as key focus areas for this year.

During the leadership dialogue that followed, Executive Committee leadership updated on the IAIS’ ambitious work programme, and highlighted current and future projects.

Leadership covered issues such as how does the IAIS ensure its work remains relevant and responsive to a rapidly changing global landscape, and what were some of the biggest challenges and opportunities supervisors would face over the next decade.

The pressing issue of addressing natural catastrophe (NatCat) was also discussed. The IAIS has put considerable effort into bringing this issue to the global policy space, most recently, the IAIS has contributed to an Input Paper, together with the World Bank, to the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG), under the South African Presidency, reflecting the growing urgency to address insurance protection gaps on the global policy agenda and commitment of the IAIS to provide leadership on this issue.

IAIS leadership also took a range of questions from stakeholders on issues including on how the IAIS plans to ensure that future updates to ICPs balance effective supervision with the need to streamline regulation, climate related risks and consumer concerns, the important role of actuaries in working to address protection gaps, consumer risks associated with the digitalisation of financial services and expansion of AI as well as climate risk.
