The IAIS publishes Application Paper on the supervision of artificial intelligence
The IAIS today published the final version of its Application Paper on the supervision of artificial intelligence (AI). The paper, which has been updated following consultation in early 2025, reinforces the importance of the Insurance Core Principles (ICPs), outlining how existing expectations around governance and conduct remain essential considerations for supervisors and insurers related to the use of AI systems in insurance.
The paper discusses the following five topics:
- Risk-based supervision and proportionality
- Governance and accountability
- Robustness, safety and security
- Transparency and explainability
- Fairness, ethics and redress
Full details on the paper, the public consultation comments received and the IAIS’ responses are available here.
A public discussion session will be held via webinar between 13:00-14:30 CEST on Thursday, 17 July 2025 to present the final paper and answer questions from stakeholders. Registration is now open here. The session will also include details about the recently launched public consultation on the draft Application Paper on operational resilience objectives and toolkit.
