Jörg Krause

Jörg Krause joined BaFin, the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority of Germany, in the year 2000. Prior to that he completed his business administration studies at the University of Cologne, worked in (re)insurance firms and as an assistant to the Professor for Insurance Business Administration at the University of Leipzig. Jörg holds a doctor’s degree (PhD) in Insurance Business Administration.

He started his career at BaFin supervising non-life insurance and reinsurance companies and working on reinsurance policy matters before joining the Solvency II Pillar 2 team. From November 2005 until May 2010, Jörg was seconded to the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in London, where he worked as a prudential supervisor in the Major Retail Groups Division and, subsequently, in the Operational Risk Team in the Prudential Risk Division. He gained further international experience through a secondment to the Insurance and Pensions Unit in Directorate-General FISMA of the European Commission in the years 2020 and 2021.

During his secondment to the European Commission, Jörg was active in the IAIS as a member of the Infrastructure Task Force. Outside the IAIS Jörg is active at EIOPA level. At the FSB, he held in 2018 and 2019 the position of the chair of the FSB Cross-border Crisis Management Group for Insurers (iCBCM).

Jörg is currently Director General in Insurance and Pension Fund Supervision, heading the Directorate Supervision of International Groups, Internal Models, Reinsurance and a member of the IAIS Implementation Assessment Committee (IAC) and Vice Chair of the Monitoring and Risk Assessment Committee (MRC). He is also a member of the IAIS Supervisory Forum to which he was Chair and Vice Chair for several years.
