Toby Nangle

Reporter, Financial Times Alphaville

Toby spent 25 years in asset management, most recently as Global Head of Asset Allocation at Columbia Threadneedle Investments where he ran an award-winning asset allocation investment team, managing c$160bn AuM for a range of institutional and retail clients. He resigned in 2022 to start a non-profit project to help asset management firms understand and cut their ongoing direct linkage to international human rights crimes.

In 2023 he became a Contributing Editor for the Financial Times. He has written a variety of research papers on the asset management industry, pension systems and private market assets for private and non-profit bodies, and presents regulatory to public and private sector audiences. In June 2025 he joined the FT full time as a reporter for Alphaville.
