Mr. Komiya joined Tokio Marine and Fire Insurance in 1983, and has held various positions including General Manager of the Personal Lines Marketing Department and Managing Director of Nisshin Fire and Marine Insurance.
Mr. Komiya was appointed as Managing Executive Officer of Tokio Marine Holdings in 2016 and took a sabbatical to attend the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University as a visiting scholar. His research and dissertation focused on Global Business Strategy and addressed Political Economy, Geopolitics and Global Environments. In April 2017, Mr. Komiya assumed responsibility for overseas business strategy, and in April 2018 he took charge of Group’s overseas business as Head of International Business.
From June 2019, Mr. Komiya led Tokio Marine Group as Group CEO for 6 years, promoting purpose-driven culture to make the group further “robust and agile” to the changing needs of customers and society, while achieving the growth of its global insurance business and enhancing its corporate value.
In June 2025, Mr. Komiya stepped down from Group CEO and assumed the position of Group Chairman. He continues to focus on developing future leaders and to serve as the Dean of Tokio Marine Group Leadership Institute, which he founded in April 2023. Also, Mr. Komiya is a board member of the Geneva Association as well as Co-Chair of Committee on Education Reform as a part of Keidanren (Japan Business Federation).
