IAIS Annual Conference 2025

The IAIS Annual Conference 2025 will take place on 13-14 November in the vibrant city of Tirana, Albania. The event will start at 09:00 in the morning on Thursday and finish at lunchtime on Friday.

The Annual Conference 2025 is themed “Navigating uncertainty: Enhancing societal resilience amidst growing complexity.”

We will explore:
• The importance of global collaboration to tackle pressing socioeconomic challenges, such as the impact of extreme weather events and accelerated digital transformation;
• Structural shifts in the life insurance sector; and
• The critical role of insurance in strengthening overall societal resilience.

There will also be two thematic deep dives, including engaging impulse speakers, dynamic panel discussions and opportunities for deeper engagement through roundtables.

You will also hear from the IAIS’ leadership, as they reflect on this year’s achievements and share insights into the IAIS’ work programme for 2026.

A special thank you to the Albanian Financial Supervisory Authority (AFSA) for hosting the event.

Agenda

Welcome remarks:
Jonathan Dixon – IAIS Secretary General
Mimosa Kaçi – General Executive Director of AFSA

We are honoured to welcome H.E. Mr. Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania, to open the conference and set the scene for the discussions that follow. His address will pave the way for the Executive Committee Leadership Dialogue, during which the current and [soon to be elected] incoming IAIS Chair, along with the Vice Chairs, will share key updates on our projects.

The IAIS Executive Committee leadership will discuss key developments on the IAIS’ work programme. The session will conclude with a Q&A with the audience.

This panel will explore the importance of global collaboration in insurance supervision and standard setting, particularly in an increasingly interconnected world. Drawing on insights from supervisors and industry leaders, the discussion will examine how collaboration can drive innovation, avoid regulatory fragmentation and address common challenges – so that insurance can fulfil its essential role of fostering societal resilience.

This panel will discuss structural shifts in the life insurance sector, including insurers’ increased investments in private credit, a rapidly growing subsector of alternative assets, as well as the rising adoption of cross-border asset-intensive reinsurance, building on the IAIS’ Issues Paper and Global Monitoring Exercise (GME) analysis on this topic.
