Assessment of a jurisdiction’s observance of the Insurance Core Principles(ICPs)supports effective implementation by identifying the extent and nature of strengths and weaknesses in a jurisdiction’s supervisory framework – especially those aspects that could affect policyholder protection and financial stability. To support assessments, the IAIS offers several tools and processes to its members. To learnmore about the full scope of IAIS’ implementation assessment activities, please visit here.
The ICP Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) is designed to support self-assessments of a jurisdiction’s level of observance of the Insurance Core Principles (ICPs).
The tool provides instant feedback, allowing insurance supervisors to easily assess their respective jurisdiction’s observance levels of an ICP at any time. The tool leverages the self-assessment questionnaires and scoring criteria applied by the Peer Review Process (PRP).
There is a questionnaire available for selected ICPs. You can access the questionnaire by clicking on the corresponding ICP link below. Please note that the self-assessment results will be calculated solely on the basis of your answers without any qualitative review. The results are therefore only high-level and for informational purposes only.
Any input by your authority in the self-assessment tool will be treated confidentially.
About the ICPs
The Insurance Core Principles (ICPs) form the globally accepted framework for insurance supervision. They consist of Principle Statements, Standards and Guidance. The ICPs aim to promote consistently high supervisory standards in IAIS member jurisdictions.
The ICPs were first adopted in 2011 and have since been updated regularly. The ICPs were last updated in December 2024. The SAT assessment materials are based on the concluded Peer Review Process (PRP). The version of the ICPs adopted is the same as that used for the most recent PRP. Questionnaires will be updated following future PRP assessments.
