IAIS announces new Executive Committee Chair
- Toshiyuki Miyoshi, Vice Minister for International Affairs, Financial Services Agency, Japan, has been elected Executive Committee Chair of the IAIS.
- Shigeru Ariizumi, Special Advisor to the Minister of State for Financial Services, Financial Services Agency, Japan, steps down as IAIS Executive Committee Chair after a two-year term marked by significant achievements.
Tirana, Albania – The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) today announces that Toshiyuki Miyoshi, Vice Minister for International Affairs, Financial Services Agency, Japan, has been elected IAIS Executive Committee Chair, succeeding Shigeru Ariizumi, former Vice Minister for International Affairs, Financial Services Agency, Japan.
Shigeru Ariizumi: “It has been a profound privilege to serve as Executive Committee Chair and collaborate with such a dedicated and talented global community of insurance supervisors. Together, we have achieved significant milestones for our Association, accomplishments made possible through every IAIS member’s unwavering support, collaboration and shared commitment to the IAIS mission.”
Jonathan Dixon: “I would like to thank Shigeru for his strong leadership and significant contributions during his tenure. Under his guidance, the Association achieved key milestones, including the finalisation of the ICS, the first comprehensive global capital standard for insurance supervision—an accomplishment that reflects over a decade of collaboration and represents a major step forward for global insurance supervision. He also steered the delivery of the IAIS’ next five-year strategic plan, providing a clear direction for the Association’s future, and deepened our engagement in global policy discussions, particularly in addressing critical natural catastrophe insurance protection gaps. His leadership has left a lasting impact, and we wish him all the best for the future.
At the same time, I warmly welcome Toshiyuki Miyoshi as the new Chair of the IAIS Executive Committee. Toshiyuki brings a wealth of financial sector experience and senior-level global engagement to this role at a time when the interconnections between the insurance sector and other parts of the financial system continue to grow. I am certain that his leadership will build on the strong foundation laid by Shigeru.”

Background information
- The IAIS Executive Committee Chair is selected by Executive Committee members for a two-year term. Toshiyuki Miyoshi’s term will run to November 2027.
- The IAIS Executive Committee is responsible for providing overall strategic direction and managing IAIS activities in a manner consistent with the specific duties set forth in the Association’s by-laws. It comprises 40 member representatives from all regions of the world, encompassing both advanced and developing economies.
